Build a Risk Register Your Management Team Will Actually Use

Serious losses rarely arrive without warning.

More likely, "pressure" will build gradually as controls weaken, responsibilities blur and small warning signs are missed.

Your risk register should aim to make those conditions visible while there is still time to prepare and act.

Our approach examines causes and triggers, competing forces, potential impact, early warning indicators, existing controls, ownership and next actions.

It gives everyone a shared view of the risks that could materially interrupt performance, harm your people or undermine the future of your business.

It is just common sense to build a risk register that your management team will adopt and use.

Get Started with a
facilitated Workshop

Our workshop will help your management team establish the foundations for your own KeyRisks Register.

Before the workshop, we will learn about your organisation, your objectives and your principal areas of concern.

The format and duration of the session will be agreed according to your size, complexity and risk-management experience.

During a Get Started workshop, we will guide and challenge your team to:

  • identify key risks that would materially affect your business
  • distinguish key risks from general concerns and operational issues
  • categorise and describe each key risk clearly and consistently
  • begin examining root causes and potential triggers
  • recognise the competing business forces creating pressure or imbalance
  • consider credible operational, financial, legal and reputational consequences
  • identify immediate mitigation priorities
  • assess how much confidence can be placed in existing controls
  • establish ownership and responsibility for continuing development.

Our starter workshop also introduces our Risk Profile Sheet methodology.

When completed, Risk Profile Sheets provide a structured way to develop each risk beyond its headline.

They clearly document causes, triggers, indicators, controls, impacts, actions, ownership and review arrangements.

Following the workshop, you will have:

  • a shortlist of your most significant risks
  • the structure for creating your unique KeyRisks Register
  • a variety of worked Risk Profile Sheet examples
  • agreed priorities, owners and next actions
  • a repeatable method for developing other key risks.

You will be well equipped to continue building your register internally, supported by our step-by-step guidebook, or you can move to our Full Development service when more extensive assistance is required.
